Worship
Sundays at St. John the Evangelist
Our normal Sunday service is Holy Eucharist. It begins at 9:30am.
All of our worship at SJE comes from the Book of Common Prayer, a great resource for worship for all people. This service consists of prayer, reading several lessons from Scripture, Preaching, great music and culminates with Holy Communion. To truly understand it, however, you need to experience it for yourself.

On special occasions and during Advent (Late November and December), at SJE we do the service of Evensong. Evensong is a service that dates to the 1500‘s, but has roots in the middle ages. The outline of the service is from the Book of Common Prayer. It consists of prayer through singing, hymns, and chanting. It expresses true mystery, and is one of the great gifts of our Anglican tradition.
St. John the Evangelist Choir
SJE is truly blessed to have a phenomenal music program. At the center of our music program is the St. John the Evangelist Choir. It is directed by Dr. Susan Huslage. The choir is made up of choral scholars from Rutgers University. They sing a broad range of music, but primarily focus on Anglican choral tradition. You can find them on Facebook under Fans of the Choral Scholars of St. John the Evangelist Episcopal Church.
